AvastSvc.exe is a trustworthy application. But malware can assume a similar identity and corrupt the system.

There are three ways to check if that file is a malware:

  • In task Manager, check its file Properties and location path. If either of these doesn’t match with the actual, then the process is a virus.
  • Check if the “Verified Signer” status of the process is “Unable to Verify-in Microsoft Process Explorer.
  • If the VeriSign certificate of the process is not issued to AVAST Software, then it is malware.

Additionally, if AvastSVC.exe is not located under its default location (i.e. C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\) then it might be a malware of virus.

How to fix High CPU Consumption?

If you notice that the AvastSvc.exe is continuously consuming high CPU from 50-100% then it may be because the application is monitoring the browser activity. There are two ways to get rid of high CPU usage, for that you will have either kill AvastSvc.exe or install a fresh Avast Antivirus.

To kill AvastSvc.exe, follow below steps:

  • Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc button together
  • Locate AvastSvc.exe under Process Tab
  • Right-click over the exe file and click on End Process

There are two reasons why users want to remove AvastSvc.exe:

  • It is a non-essential Windows process and will not hamper other system programs in its absence.
  • It utilizes CPU resources from anywhere between 3.4% up to 50%. This is because scanning and malware removal keeps going on in the background. This slows down the system.

For all these problems, AvastSvc.exe can be easily disabled or removed.

There are two ways to remove it:

Method 1:

  1. Click on Start, type Control Panel and click on it
  2. Now click on Uninstall a Program which is located under Programs
  3. Locate Avast Free Antivirus, right-click and click on Uninstall.

  • Use third party Uninstaller software like IObit
  • Open the application and choose the Avast Free Antivirus to uninstall it.
