What is CCXProcess.exe and How to Disable It?

CCXProcess.exe is an executable file that launches with the system startup and can be seen in the Task Manager that is used by Adobe. The process is a part of Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop.

While these processes are usually harmless with very little or zero CPU usage, sometimes these can be a type of malware disguised as a variant of the CCXProcess.exe process. In such cases, you must run a virus scan to check their real identity.

What is CCXProcess.exe and Its Uses?

This process belongs to the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop software. The Adobe suite is known to feature different applications related to photography, editing, etc. The .exe file can appear from any of these applications.

If you have installed a genuine Abode application then CCXProcess.exe should be a genuine file. Buit If you see several related processes like the cscript.exe or conhost.exe files, it could be due to the antivirus software on your PC.

Some users also report performance issues with the system when they see the processes using a high CPU or memory. This could be due to incompatibility between the Adobe software and the AVG antivirus, or due to a virus attack like cryptojacked. It can be disguised as malware like a Trojan or a cryptocurrency miner using the legitimate process name.

  • Open Task Manager > Details Tab > Select the CCXProcess.exeprocess> right-click on it > Open File Location. If you reach a folder that’s nowhere associated with Adobe, run a virus scan with immediate effect.
  • If you are experiencing an extremely slow system performance from the time since you noticed the .exe process.
  • If you have downloaded any forbidden files like a torrent, off-late.

How to disable CCXProcess.exe?

While the authenticated version of this process is safe, sometimes, you may experience system performance lag due to an incompatibility AVG or any other 3rd party antivirus. In such cases, you can fix this issue by disabling the process. Let’s see how:

  1. Right-click on the Start menu and select Run from the context menu.
  2. This will open the Run command
  3. In the search field, type Regedit and pre the Enter
  4. This will open the Registry Editor
  5. Copy and paste the below path in the Registry Editor address bar and press Enter: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Policies>Adobe 
  6. Right-click on the Adobe folder, select New, and then Key.
  7. Rename the Key as CCXWelcome.
  8. Now, select the CCXWelcome that you just created, go to the right side of the pane, and right-click on an empty area.
  9. Now, select New and then select DWORD (32-bit) Value.
  10. Rename the DWORD value as Disabled.
  11. Double-click on Disabled. This will open a dialogue box names – Edit DWORD (32-bit) Value.
  12. Go to the Value data field and set its value to ‘0’.
  13. Press OK to save the changes and exit.

*Note – Before you make any changes to the registry, make sure that you create a backup of the registry data.

Now, restart your PC and the CCXProcess.exe is now disabled on your PC. You should not see the processes related to CCXProcess.exe anymore.

How to Remove CCXProcess.exe?

If you are facing regular issue with this process and no more using Adobe Creative Cloud then you may consider uninstalling the application itself that will remove the CCXProcess.exe from the system:

1) Press Windows+R

2) Type control and hit the Enter button

3) Select Uninstall a program

4) Right-click on Adobe Creative Cloud software and choose Uninstall

5) Follow the uninstallation process

This way you can permanently remove the CCProcess from your Windows PC or Laptop.
