I am using Free Download Manager on my Windows 10. It also supports macOS. It has almost the same features as IDM. It can boost the downloading speed, plus it has the capability of resuming broken downloads.
But, recently I have noticed that when the Internet connection is turned-on and launch the Free Download Manager, then it takes nearly 1 minute to open. But as soon as I disconnect the internet, it instantly opens. That means, the Free Download Manager trying to download something at the backend. That’s my personal experience.
